The second of the sessions will build on the Supportability Analysis (SA) covered during the first session and address each of the Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) tasks in far more detail. The need for LSA is established, from the need a logical argument is developed for System Engineering and, that sub-set of Systems Engineering which is LSA. The LSA tasks are then addressed throughout the system life cycle. This approach ensures that the delegate has a sound understanding of the concepts and the issues associated with LSA, and with a logical and structured approach it aids recall and understanding. In addition, because the standards are related to the theory, the delegates develop the ability to make a critical appraisal of the contents and the requirements of the standards.

The session is based on the LSA tasks as defined in two of the key standards used worldwide; these being the UK Def Stan 00-60 and the US MIL-STD-1388. The minor differences between these two standards will be addressed during the course. The session also addresses other standards used globally in the application of LSA; including ASD and the US Mil Handbook 502A, which also deal with the topic of Product Support Analysis (PSA) and is a natural lead in to industry involvement in long term support of Military systems.
